Safety - School Hazard Zone

I am concerned that schools are ill equipped to deal with all emergency situations and as a result the safety of students and staff are at risk.

A team of staff members at my school developed an emergency plan following the Columbine High School tragedy. The plan is to be used in the event of imminent danger such as a bomb threat, if the school is under attack, or if an armed perpetrator is in the interior or exterior of the building. It is a reactionary plan. It focuses solely on events that happen after an incident occurs within a specific radius of the school building.

Embodying Critical Pedagogy: A Movement Towards Vitality

During an interview, Paulo Freire described his pedagogy as a “pedagogy of happiness, laughter, of questioning, or curiosity, of seeing the future through the present, a pedagogy that believes in the possibility of the transformation of the world” (McLaren, 2007, p. 320).

The Mouse's Tale

Hello!

Thanks to Joe for all of the amazing spaces that he creates for us to
think, reflect and connect. I am happy to be a part of this with my
tales.

The Tale of the Mouse comes from Alice in Wonderland, and is the story
of an unfair trial. It is also a nice visual.

My next blog is on textbook and curriculum treatment of Islam. An
unfair trial indeed.

(Not) Made in the U.S.A.

Last Friday, while visiting my parents in New York, I made a quick stop at my favorite clothing store (Ann Taylor Loft) while I was waiting for my folks to get home from work. Luckily, ATL was having one of its fabulous sales, and I found a beautiful, turquoise, empire waist dress that fit me perfectly AND had been marked down from $79.99 to $29.99. What a find! I brought it up to the register, the sales woman rang it up, and to my wonderous surprise, the dress rang up at only $11.19—BONUS!

Rethinking Critical Pedagogy

I am excited to have been invited by Joe and Shirley to do a blog as part of this important virtual community. The focus of my blog will be on rethinking critical pedagogy. I take it as basic that any tradition must be able to fundamentally examine its assumptions in response to changing historical conditions; of course it is often easier not to do so. But if critical pedagogy is to remain vital, it has to be able to interrogate itself in a sustained manner. In this first blog I want to suggest a few reasons why such a rethinking is in order in the present.

critical action research

I have been working for helping pre-service education for more than 3 years. through this experience, I began to develop how Freire's dialogic methods can help preservice teachers active participate in polifical project for the social change and incorporate critical pedagogy in rethink the formation of teacher identity and ideological discourse.
