A framework for data analysis

Hello Everyone,

This is the first time I 've created a 'forum' topic so please forgive me if this is not what this is for. I guess this is call for feedback/help/suggestions or sharing of opinions=)

I am having some difficulty in articulating my views about 'dialogue' in writing. Though I know what dialogue is, what it feels like or looks like, im being challenged (and I'm open to challenge) to provide definitions and a framework for analysis (as I intend to explain the evidence of dialogue in data i.e transcriptions).

Obama's Betrayal of Public Education? Arne Duncan and the Corporate Model of Schooling

Send the book to Obama, though I am not hopeful. Duncan is just a market fundamentalist who simply does not have a clue. See the piece below for a fuller analysis of his politics and background.

Iran Burning While North American Media Fiddles with The King of Pop

I actually paid a fortune for a ticket to see MJ on September 10, 2001.  Besides the fact that it was the night before the world changed....I really liked the show.  Not a pop fanatic, I still recognize the importance and genius of that once little boy who fronted the Jackson Five.  I am convinced MJ was abused and used by his family and promoters, and truly led a tortured life.  And, I am so sorry he is gone.

That said.  For the past week, I have heard nary a word about the red hot crisis in Iran, the escalating craziness of North Korea's infantile leader, the deaths in Iraq, Afganistan escalation, world hunger--is it me, or is the attention on the death of a pop star just way, way too much?

Australia apology to Aborigines

This story reminds me when I was a kid and my abuelita/grandma (who refused to learn English!) would say that white folks are always saying "I'm soooorry," without really having any intention of changing. She meant for me to see that Western culture used apologies as a means to relieve THEIR guilt and undo responsibility for wrongdoing, absent of any real concern for the consequences their actions had upon others. She stressed: "Asi no es nuestra manera, me entiendes?!" "This is not our way! You understand!" My grandma was a simple person, she just called things as she experienced them. Moral of the story: Don't ever say "I'm sorry" to an oppressed people, unless you're absolutely ready to clean up your shit!

Queer Action Research in Education

I am interested in Queer Action Research in Education (QUARE), and critical pedagogy to challenge homophobia, heterosexism and heteronormativity in schools. I would be interested to hear about any similar work group members have been involved in. My recently completed doctoral action research focused on exploring the possibilities and limitations to foster teacher empowerment and promote Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (GLBTQ) educational equity in schools. The dissertation Promoting Educational Equity through Teacher Empowerment: Web-assisted Transformative Action Research as a Counter-Heteronormative Praxis is available at: http://herkules.oulu.fi/isbn9789514290572/index.html?lang=en Tim Bedford (Oulu, Finland)

Positionality and Ideology

In just reiterating our conversation today, the ideas presented regarding ideology and positionality are serious enough to discuss again.  As individuals, we all identify with a positionality, or multiple positionalities.  That said, we also have ideological perspectives which assist in determining how we fit within our own webs of reality.  We first find comfort in the safety of like-looking people, those who seem to have a similar background and environment.  The catch, though, is when we identify that those who look like us, often don't believe as we do.
