Haiti in Hell

There are few words which describe how many of us feel about the earthquake in Haiti.  Described by the news as "the poorest country in our hemisphere," the lack of shame and embarassment about what people don't know about Haiti is amazing.
For years we have watched the ignorance of North America in regard to Haiti.  When teaching classes at Florida International University, I remember 2 of my undergrad students both had Master's degrees in Foucault and Literary Theory from the University in Port-Au-Prince.  Their credits were reduced to high school credit for courses taken, and they had to start in a BA program.  When I queried the decision, I was told that the university was equal to any school in North America and they were "lucky" to get high school credit.
To be outraged at this point is useless.  Hopefully, you have contacted those you know who may need help.  We are able to host any time of information or list on this site, let us know if we can help in this tiny way.
It is apparent that the aid work is very small, as Haiti is so close to North America, I don't understand why full service emergency assistance is not there already.  I am sick at this and worried that Katrina will be a small example after this one.  If anyone thinks race and poverty are not compelling reasons which keep first world countries away...wll they don't think.
The news reports discuss the constant instabilities in Haiti's government since it's origin.  There is no discussion, however, of the intervention of American installed puppet dictators, and the art embargo.  If you find one story which reflects a modicum of truth about Haiti, please post it here.
