Iran Burning While North American Media Fiddles with The King of Pop
I actually paid a fortune for a ticket to see MJ on September 10, 2001. Besides the fact that it was the night before the world changed....I really liked the show. Not a pop fanatic, I still recognize the importance and genius of that once little boy who fronted the Jackson Five. I am convinced MJ was abused and used by his family and promoters, and truly led a tortured life. And, I am so sorry he is gone.
That said. For the past week, I have heard nary a word about the red hot crisis in Iran, the escalating craziness of North Korea's infantile leader, the deaths in Iraq, Afganistan escalation, world hunger--is it me, or is the attention on the death of a pop star just way, way too much?
My communications background reminds me that "if it bleeds, lead...." certainly, there should be some sort of responsiblity...or should there? At this point, all I can do is urge everyone to write to the news station he or she watches most and ask them to return to their regular (albiet mediocre) programming, and let us know what the hell is going on outside of Neverland.
