Safe Schools Improvement Act of 2009 - status update

Siredeaner Walker, Carl Walker-Hoover's mom, testified  before 2 congressional sub-committees on July 8 on the Safe Schools Improvement Act

.  This bill will require schools to track and report on incidents of bullying and harassment and includes a list of protected groups including: race; color; national origin; sex; disability; sexual orientation; gender identity; or religion.   This legislation can help provide communities and youth advocates the backing that they need to get schools to update and revise policies.  I'll be following this one, and the widget below will keep us all updated.  

According to govtrack.us, "This bill is in the first step in the legislative process. Introduced bills and resolutions first go to committees that deliberate, investigate, and revise them before they go to general debate. The majority of bills and resolutions never make it out of committee." Stay tuned...
