2nd Anniversary of Joe Kincheloe's Death

On December 14, Joe would have been 60 years old.  There would have been a huge party, and he would have told us all that he relished getting older, and that he had had the most wonderous life.  We all miss him, and his song, and now....2 years later, we celebrate his life on his yahrzeit.
Please take time to write a short blog about your memories and thoughts of Joe and his work.  He exemplified radical love, in every way, he was an authentic human being...he was loved.

A New Year

Beloved ones, a full year has passed, much has happened.  We have lost loves and gained new ones.  I wish you all the very best and blessings...With radical love, we will gain more by our commitments to those in need, those who don't have the luxuries we have...even by being able to read a post on the Internet.  Thank you from the bottom of my soul for the love, support, and thoughts you have given to me and the kids this year.  We are ok....we are progressing....and we will continue.  Please continue to support our website and contribute to the blogs.

Radical Love: Baeza Congress 2009 Invited Conversation

What does critical pedagogy have to offer our understanding of love? For the Papa of critical pedagogy, Freire, radical love was an enactment of love through social action that seeks to change “unlovely” circumstances for people. He influenced my life in a most dramatic way, as I believe he did the other two honorees of this conference, and probably yours as well. Paulo and Pato and Joe helped us to articulate to ourselves some of the following thoughts:
  • Who are the downtrodden?
  • Do we love them?
  • Do we wish to commit to social change so that they have opportunities that many take for granted?
  •  Do we as educators act in meaningful ways to engage learners to transform their “unlovely” circumstances?
