Dr. Venus E. Evans-Winters holds a Masters degree in School Social Work and a Doctoral degree in Educational Policy Studies, with a specialization in the Sociology of Education from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor at Illinois State University in the Department of Educational Administration & Foundations. Her areas of research interests are urban education, urban children and adolescents, feminist theory, and qualitative research methods. She uses sociological and anthropological research methods to analyze educational problems and issues. Her recent book released in April of 2005 is “Teaching Black girls: Resiliency in urban classrooms.” She is also the author and co-author of several journal articles and book chapters.
